Tapping into technological innovation in the classroom

November 3rd, 2008  Tagged , , ,

My eyes are almost popping out with excitement at all the amazing things I can do as a teacher using new technologies.  But how can I tap in to the community of like minded teachers who are experimenting with new ideas?

Today I received in my inbox an email with Tom Barrett’s latest blog posting outlining four new ways he will be incorporating new ICT in his class.  This is how I can learn – stories from the coalface.  What I found interesting was that Tom touched on a new comic application and he mentioned it doesn’t have class login capabilities like Voicethread.  I’ve only just been introduced to Voicethread and I love it, but I didn’t know it had these capabilities – but now I do.  So this is how I can expand my knowledge quickly – by linking into this professional learning community on the net.

I found Tom Barrett’s blog by searching on the edublogs directory, subscribing to blogs that were of interest to me (maths focus) and then as I read these blogs, linking in to new blogs of interest.

Just out of interest, here’s a video I made and loaded up on Voicethread which I used in a lesson for my Maths Methods subject on differentiating trigonometric functions.

You could get students to comment on this or you could ask students to make their own video using and use this as an example to follow, then comment on  each others videos.
